Renaming torrent files

by Guest on 2024/10/10 10:02:01 AM
Would you please consider allowing completely downloaded torrent files to be renamed (ie. by pressing F2) the same as ones that aren't completely downloaded?  Currently files can be renamed (within Tixati only) by pressing F2, but the actual files (outside of Tixati) are NOT renamed.  Thanks for considering this request.

What version of Tixati are you using and what OS?
It renames properly for me with F2 and rename from right-click menu.
Im using v3.29 on Linux and windows7.

Tixati v3.29 on Windows 7.  If you try renaming torrents that have finished downloading/seeding it will rename them in Tixati, but not outside of Tixati.  It just seems to rename them.

I tried with a file from a complete, seeding torrent in Win7.
It renamed the file in Tixati and on my harddrive.

Try it with a complete NON-SEEDING torrent.  Those are the ones I'm having no luck renaming outside of Tixati v3.29.

Ok, I tried a complete, stopped torrent and it renamed the files in tixati and on my harddrive.
what type of file is it? I have tried mostly with text files.

TV shows so that means either *.MKVs or directories with *.MKVs in them.

In case it means anything... what I mean by renaming is to change an all lowercase filename into a mixed case filename (ie. tvshow.2024.s01e02.1080p.web.h264 becomes Tvshow.2024.S01E02.1080p.WEB.h264).

If I change the torrent name (other than the capitalization) then renaming works fine, but if I just change the capitalization then it fails to work.  If I do either type of renaming DURING the download it works fine, but NOT after it has finished downloading and seeding. :-(

I finally see what you see.
It does not want to rename just a uppercase/lowercase change.

If I'm not mistaken it also does NOT want to rename the *.torrent file when renaming a fully downloaded, non-seeding torrent.

> Case-sensitive renaming
https://forum.tixati.com/support/7617  complain to Microsoft LOL. If the file is not on NTFS, it gets interesting. In that case OS version and filesystem? Better report in the linked thread.

notaLamer: Thanks for trying to help, but the point of this message thread was that Tixati v3.29 DOES rename the torrents during one process, but does NOT rename them during the other one.

Version 3.31 still has the same problem as v3.29.  You can "change the case" rename files while downloading them just fine, but when they're finished downloading and seeding they ONLY get "change the case" renamed WITHIN Tixati and the actual files and torrent files do NOT get renamed outside of Tixati.  v3.31 renames the files much quicker WITHIN Tixati, but NOT outside of Tixati.

are you sure you are running v3.31?
I tried this in win 10 with 3.29 and 3.31 with a complete, stopped torrent and a complete seeding torrent
3.29 did not rename the file in explorer, only in tixati for just an uppercase/lowercase change
but,
3.31 did rename the file in explorer and in tixati for just an uppercase/lowercase change

I also tried this in win7 with 3.29 and 3.31 with a complete, stopped torrent and a complete seeding torrent
3.29 did not rename the file in explorer, only in tixati for just an uppercase/lowercase change
but,
3.31 did rename the file in explorer and in tixati for just an uppercase/lowercase change

I check daily for new updates so I'm sure I've been using v3.31 since the day it was released.  I still have to rename it in Tixati, copy the new name and use that to rename the actual file and torrent in Windows 7 if it's just a "case change" rename.  If it's more than a "case change" rename then it has worked since v3.19 (the first version of Tixati I used).

*UPDATE*

I hadn't mentioned it before because I didn't think it mattered, but I use xplorer2 as a Windows explorer replacement.  If after renaming the file in Tixati I do a "Refresh" in xplorer2 it shows Tixati DID rename the file, but NOT the torrent so v3.31 fixed half of the problem.

Yes, that's your answer. It's not specific to xplorer2, whatever that is, basic Windows Explorer has that behaviour also - it will only display a change in case of a filename on a refresh of the window, as that's not considered significant in the underlying filesystem (going back to MSDOS!). So your filenames were always changed, but you weren't able to see that immediately without the folder window being reloaded.

Tixati v3.31 will "case change" rename single files, but it still does NOT rename the torrent file with those single files.  It also does NOT "case change" rename directories/folders when it's a multi-file torrent inside a directory/folder.  I don't really expect Tixati to "case change" rename any of the files inside the directories/folders, but it would be nice if it did "case change" rename the directories/folders.
