Tixati splash box displayed for 20 seconds then pc frozen

by Guest on 2017/05/22 05:01:31 AM
Been using tixati for many months with great performance.
windows 8.1 64bit 4Gb ram.
As normal i had 20-30 downloads in progress and I was seeding about 10 torrents as normal for many months.
I shutdown the pc as normal, then today tixati cannot display its window.
I can see in Process Explorer that Tixati uses up 3.7Gb of private bytes before its window is displayed, but then windows freezes
because tixati is using all the available memory on my pc!!

any idea what changed between yesterday and today to cause tixati to only now demand over 3.7Gb of memory ??

I tried downloading the latest 2.5.3 64b version of tixati and installing it "over the top" of the existing tixati hoping that maybe there wa a corrupted file that may be fixed by the upgrade but tixati 2.5.3 still tries to use more than 3.7Gb private bytes of memeory and freezes windows 8.1.

I really don't want to do a clean install of tixati and lose all my in progress downloads only to find that even after a clean install tixati still uses all the memory and freezes windows.

first, find your .tixati folder and make a copy of that so you will not lose anything.

then try either deleting one file at a time and run the program after each delete, or delete everything, run the program and then copy in your saved dat files one by one. either way should at least narrow down what file it is.

are you in a lot of channels? are the channels larger ones and/or have lots shared?

could a large download have automatically started?

any windows updates?

incomplete-pieces folder contains 162 .dat files.

are you saying I should try deleting .dat files from the incomplete-pieces folder or the

some of the other .dat files like core2.dat ?

I have never used the channels function on Tixati, as far as I recall I had it set to off.

I don't think a large download could have started because I was watching tixati waiting for

a particular download to complete, as soon as that file completed I shut down the pc

normally.

I was worried this might be caused by some tixati related malware? I don't know, maybe I'm

a bit paranoid.

No windows updates.

You may wanna disable DHT, it is not working correctly with the Windows DLL, making memory leaks.
Idk for which version it started.

You might want to save all your torrents and uninstall, install again, removing all registry and data.

I deleted the most recent timestamped incomplete-pieces.9BAD.dat 5,191kB file and tried starting Tixati.
Tixati started up and displayed its window normally within seconds.
What a relief.
Several pending torrents have started and Process Explorer is showing tixati only using 182kB of Private Bytes of system memory.
Yay all back to normal.

What effect will deleting that .dat file have on the continuing download of any partially complete files ?

Thanks to those who helped me to fix this.
