Allocation & Verification

by Fangz on 2013/08/01 02:14:01 AM
It seems that allocation or verification can take hours.  It takes almost as long as the download itself.  Is there a way to specify a different allocation algorithm that is faster?

Yes there is.  Open the settings window.  Go to "Local Files" under the Transfers section and change the "File Allocation" combobox to "Sparse Files".  This will increase the speed at which your computer allocates the space for files by only writing in the file header.  However, verification will still take as long as it does now and I do not know of a way to increase your speed for that through Tixati.

Yes I agree, I am sure allocation and file copying could be done faaster.  On windows 7, copying using explorer is much faster than Tixati.

If you enable sparse files, and you move a file already downloaded.  It still takes a long time to allocate.

Where is the sparse file allocation found? I have multi-terabyte drives.  I do NOT need pre-allocation.

Found it!!!  Settings>local files>File allocation
Works WONDERS!!!!
Maybe that should be the default?

After I formatted my disk for torrents into exFAT (from NTFS) I noticed that allocation sometimes takes minutes. On NTFS it seemed to be faster.

The reason I formatted into exFAT is that exFAT takes less read/write operations to do something thus it is less exhaustive than NTFS.

Is there a way to speed up file allocation?
