Error reading file: Input/output error

by unknownable123 on 2014/09/02 11:13:51 AM
I was downloading a file (from torrent) and I set a timer to shutdown. When I switched on my computer again, it showed "Error reading file: Input/output error". The download wasn't completed yet, but I can't resume the download. Is there any way to get rid of the error and resume it? I have a slow internet connection and the file is huge.
P/S: I use Tixati 1.98 on Ubuntu 14.04 32-bit. Other downloads operating at the same time weren't affected.

I've never seen this error, but you could try to copy/move the file to another location (not in Tixati, just in the operating system file explorer) and then copy it back.

As long as the file is the correct size still, you should be OK.  But it sounds like the file is corrupt on disk....  good luck

I've been getting this error occasionally. The file is damaged, and I cannot delete or move it (Linux Mint Cinnamon 16). Tixati will not resume the download, and a "Force Check" does not repair it.

The only solution I have found is to open the same torrent in Transmission, run the file check in Transmission, and let Transmission finish the download. Once the download is complete, I can then do a "Force Check" with Tixati, and upload the file, play it delete it, etc.

It seems to happen most often with .ts files. It has happened near the end of the file, and as early as 23%.

It has happened with Tixati 1.97 and 1.98.

This may be repeat. I didn't log-in, and my Guest post hasn't shown up.

I have had file errors qith Tixati 1.97 and 1.98 on Linux Mint 16 Cinnamon. Tixati File Check would not repair the file (just stops at the same place), and I cannot move or delete the file in Linux.

I have been able to repair the files and finish the download by using Transmission. I open the same torrent in Transmission, use it's file check, and finish the download with Transmission. I usually then do Tixati file check and use Tixari to upload. The files play and work normally.

I have always had the file error problem on 2G+ files, and usually on .ts files. That may be because they are usually the biggest files I download. I doesn't always happen on big files, so I don't know the cause.

Try going into the Help Menu > Diagnostics > File Operations Log and see if you log the error when you try to run the torrent with the bad file.  If you can get an error number (look for e=12345 on the line that mentions the file) it might help to figure it out, but it sounds like the file is pretty messed up.

Never had this happen in any of my Linux systems (Fedora/Ubuntu).

I'll do that next time it happens. It hadn't done it for months, and then I had two files broken a week ago. Unfortunatwly I cleared my log since.

Any idea why Transmission will fix the file but Tixati Force Check won't?

Thanks!

I have a 1G file that is showiing "Error reading file: Input/output error". "Force check" will not repair the file.

This is from the File operations log after starting a file check. There isn't an error listed, but it comes back with the File error.

(log sent to devs)

This is the only bit with an e= anything I can find when I run Tixati file check:

Transmission fixed the file again in about 5 seconds.

Windows operating system file error #5 is

ERROR_ACCESS_DENIED (0x5)
   Access is denied.

according to this page:

There must be something very strange going on in your machine.  Using a network share for a download folder?  Antivirus?  Backup/Sync utils?

This is not a windows system, it's Linux Mint16 Cinnamon if that makes a difference?

It works fine for a month, then there is a file error in one file only, and it works fine once I fix it with Transmission.

No antivirus, saving to single HD where the system resides, nothing odd that I can think of. Recent install of Mint with very little else running or installed on it. Just a torrent machine running Tixati and Firefox, and Transmission once a month briefly.

Also, I did not start this thread. The problem is happening to at least one other Linux system.

Make chmod?
Change folder and try check?
Rename folder, make Tixati report no file, and redo rename, check?
Delete all .dat files and temporary files from Tixati incomplete-pieces?

Here's incomplete pieces in Windows: C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\tixati
