I2P ONLY mode and DHT ?

by Guest on 2026/04/09 09:40:50 PM
Hi,

I have a question. Tixati is in I2P ONLY mode. In those settings, the option DHT should be ON or OFF ?

I mean the Settings / DHT .

Thanks

I would assume on as I2P runs over DHT.

Yes it should be ON

If you open DHT page, and click on the tabs, you'll see that there are four independent DHTs: for IPv4 nodes, for IPv6 nodes, for I2P nodes and mixed mode (Public+I2P) torrents, for I2P nodes and I2P-only torrents.

If you disable IPv4 and IPv6 interfaces in settings to only exchange data with I2P node, only internal I2P DHTs continue to work.

I2P DHT is enormously useful to all I2P peers. You should not disable it unless you have clear reason to do so. If you don't want to announce some torrent to anyone but the small group of people, you need to either create torrents with private flag set (preferred), or disable DHT in torrent settings (but nothing stops other peers to announce it to DHT, so it's pretty useless if you don't control all the clients).

oK,

After enabling again DHT, i see all 4 interfaces active.

I don't see how exacly i can disable the first 3 and leave only the I2P-ONLY ??

Am i blind or old i guess :)

To clear things, the DHT in the bottom status bar in Tixati, should say DHT: offline ? Or not ?

thanks

I2P only mode implies that you set IPv4 and IPv6 interfaces to disabled to prevent any public DHT or peer connections. If you did not, you are not using just the I2P network.

Both I2P DHTs work when I2P is running. It is not a problem.

For DHT, it says that it's offline. What other things you want to change in your client, I have no idea.

If you really want it to detach from public network, start with the system firewall. Make sure that the process is not allowed to use the network directly.

Then, of course, you need to use the operating system that does not have build-in antivirus that is allowed to upload any file to Microsoft by default, and does not have many “free” programs that collect useful “stats” about you, including captions of all open windows.

How were you able to stop ipv4 and ipv6. I have looked into settings and nothing is present there to stop them. Tell me how did you do this?

go to settings--network--connections.
at the bottom there is 'Local IPv4 address or interface' and 'Local IPv6 address or interface'.
press the ... button and choose disabled.
