Host not found 49410

by Guest on 2025/05/07 06:27:31 PM
I've been using Tixati for many years.  Yesterday, noticed that none of my torrents were up/down loading.  ALL of them show a "Hot not found (49410)" error in the tracker tab.
If you have a fix for this, please post.

I'm running Tixati 3.34 on Windows 11 and have already reset the Settings|Network|Connections|Network mode to "IPV4 preferred", and hit "Reset To Defaults".  Neither helped.

Looking forward to something that will make Tixati work again!

Is it a public or a private tracker? Can you share its domain?

If it's public, then it's nothing, you should get most of the same peers from DHT (if you haven't turned it off).

If it's private, check its forum, and local news to see whether your proud glorious country has ordered to block access to some piracy sites for its citizens. VPNs might help in that case.

Thanks for the help.  I really appreciate it.  And your suggestion made me find something peculiar...

re: "Is it a public or a private tracker?"
It's ALL the trackers a couple different domains I use a LOT, so I presumed it was ALL trackers.  So, I thought about trying other torrent domains...
I tried a torrent for downloading Ubuntu from https://ubuntu.com/download/alternative-downloads#other-images-and-mirrors   Seems that the torrent from Ubuntu.com works just fine.  Very peculiar!!!
Then I tried a magnet from a popular site that initiates trackers from many different domains.  I found that a couple of the trackers had "Host not found (49410), but many from other domains were working fine.  (A few others had "Timed out" or "Invalid reply" notices as well)

re: "If it's public, then it's nothing, you should get most of the same peers from DHT (if you haven't turned it off)."
Could you review what should be chosen in the Settings|DHT section?  Here's what I have:
  Startup DHT mode: On
DHT mode for normal transfers: Search + Announce
DHT mode for trackerless transfers: Off
  Maximum simultaneous searches: 25
Auto node ID change interval: 1 week
Auto node ID change only on startup:
  DHT Bootstrap Nodes:

re: "If it's private, ... VPNs might help in that case."
I'm always running NordVPN when Tixati is running.

What you've said seems to help helping!
What do you think the problem is?
What can I try next to determine how to get my pre-existing torrents to work???

UPDATED:
With more experimentation, I noticed that this phenomenon was happening only with private torrents - public ones worked fine.

Then I tried this:  I closed Tixati, paused NordVPN, then started Tixati again.  Miraculously, all the (private) torrents were connecting, all the way down the list!  Then, I unpaused NordVPN to see if the problem would recur.    Even after NordVPN was unpaused (i.e., reinstated), all the (private) torrents were connecting further down the list.  No more "Host not found"!

If this recurs, I guess I have a practical solution (start Tixati with NordVPN paused), but can someone explain what's going on here, and how I can make sure it doesn't happen again in the future?

Either tracker site denies connections from addresses with a big number of torrent clients (like shared VPN servers), or VPN provider blocks some tracker sites for some reason. Check tracker rules (some nonsense like 1 IP = 1 user policy) and VPN documentation (de-prioritisation of certain protocols, like torrenting, on certain tariff plans).

Bad idea, if this is why you are using a VPN.

Host Not Found typically means a DNS error (domain->IP lookup). Most likely the DNS server you use when inside NordVPN blocks these addresses.

Repeat for NordVPN ON and OFF:
1. Launch CMD
2. Run "nslookup sometracker.domain.example"
3. Compare the results

Repeat 2, but attempt to ask Google/Cloudflare/Quad9 servers (8.8.8.8 / 1.1.1.1 / 9.9.9.9)
"nslookup sometracker.domain.example @dns-ip-above" - Hopefully I got it correct.

Do not post the full domains or IPs here.

RESOLVED!

Thanks to everyone for your suggesting.  I have solved the problem.

I have been in a prolonged dialog with NordVPN Support, trying everything they suggested, but nothing worked.  They finally said: "NordVPN is functioning as expected. The issue is likely related to the specific tracker's restrictions. Unfortunately, there is nothing further we can offer in this case."

I tried perhaps the most obvious thing, and it worked.  Here’s what I did:
•Changed my ethernet adapter’s DNS to 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) from the NordVPN one had me change it to.  (I had changed to 1.1.1.1 previously, which didn’t fix the issue.)
•I uninstalled NordVPN (including all its aspects and features) via Control Panel | Programs and Features
•I did a registry cleaning with CCleaner, running it several times, and doing a restart after it showed that there were no more registry entries to be cleaned
•Reinstalled NordVPN by downloading the latest version from their website
Now, all of my torrents and trackers in Tixati seems to work fine.

That seems to conclusively prove that something about NordVPN was the problem.
I hope this experience can help others with similar issues.
