seeding?

by Guest on 2024/12/08 06:00:13 AM
Hello,
Does Tixati have the ability to seed until someone else replaces you as the only seeder?  If so, what setting should be used to accomplish this?  Thanks for any help with this.

There are many seeding settings.
In the settings-transfers-general there are some options for all transfers.
Also if you right click a torrent there are options for that torrent.
And there are options if you select a torrent and go to the options tab.

Thank you for the reply, but I checked the setting before posting the message and did NOT see a way to do what I wanted.  That's why I was asking for SPECIFIC instructions about how to do it.

I seed from multiple computers, with my main seedbox on a cable connection with decent BW. However at another location I have very little BW so I disconnect from torrents that others are seeding as long as I am maxing out my available/applied UL BW.

The master control for this is:
From the Transfers window...
1) select 1 or more torrents
2) right click
3) then from the menu that pops up:
Goto Seeding, then Remote Seed Limit.
Set the limit you want.

If the Seed Limit is set to 1, that's you. If there are any other Seeds for a torrent set to 1, then your Tixati will stop sharing that torrent. You can later restart any or all torrents that were auto-stopped for "Exceeded the Seed Count" to test again if there are any other seeds or more than the limit you selected.

I tend to set a higher seed limit on torrents I think are important to share and a lower speed limit on less important torrents I may seed to fill/max out my available UL BW allocation.

In the lower panel across the set of tabs that starts with Details, then files, etc click options. Below that line of buttons on the left you will see vertical buttons, top one is local files go down to seeding and click it.Once clicked the seeding options will appear and you are looking for the bottom one "remote seed limit". In theory when you check the box and set the number to one if another seed shows up then you will disconnect. There is a problem with that however if there are more than one file in the torrent. They may not be a complete seed with all files. They might have only chosen to download one file but will still be considered complete so you will still disconnect. If you want the torrent to always be seeded you would likely set that number no less than two, but again depends on the torrent and how often you see other seeders.

Hello,
If I'm understanding correctly there's NOT a way to do what I'm wanting as the DEFAULT, but there IS a way to do it manually.  I was really hoping Tixati had more options to setup the DEFAULT seeding specifics.  Thanks for your help.

That's "Stop seeding on upload ratio above ..." in Settings - Transfers - General.

Based on experience, no amount of ratio will allow a torrent to live on, because many people will leave once they download. An upload ratio of 1.3x (default) is equal to immediate death, 2x is not enough. A ratio of 300x is not enough in some content categories & countries as even in this case I remained the only seed online. Just don't ask later why you are stuck at 99% download. If you need disk space, I suggest to remove most popular torrents first: sort by Status or Seeds column. "Layout" button on the top right, "Select columns..."
