socks5 proxy question

by Bunkmil on 2013/08/20 12:29:42 AM
Hi,

I just subscribe to a vpn service (privateinternetacess) and they also provide a socks5 proxy for their users. I was able to make it work in utorrent but it doesn't work in tixati. I always get a "Connection failed" error message.

Here's the setup I used:

Any ideas ?

Maybe try "IP Address" instead of proxy-nl.privateinter...

I have tried with severals ip addresses but it didn't help.

Whatever ip address I put in I get a "Connection failed" status in the Trackers tab.

Today I just started looking into using that same VPN service. By the nature of your question, take a look at this help forum on their site where they are explaining using the proxy server with uTorrent. Hope it helps, it's still all a bit confusing to me so far. I have not tried to implement it yet.

I know it works all fine with utorrent and deluge but I'd like to make it work with tixati. But I always get a "Failed to connect to proxy" message...

sorry, i just thought that thread link might contain something specific to your setup regarding id and password.
Username: PIA Generated username (No longer your VPN username)
Password: PIA Generated password (No longer your VPN password)
do you have IPv6 disabled?

I finally installed PIA's VPN.  It works great.  I'm not using the SOCKS proxy, I have no need for a proxy and think VPN is more secure than proxy.  Also, with SOCKS added onto VPN there is more of a speed lag.  I seem to be getting better down & uploads (ie. more peers ergo better speed) leading me to think that my ISP has been limiting my torrent traffic, but the number of connections I get might just be coincidental with the mix of torrents I am currently processing.

I'm finding the only drawbacks are very minor as far as Tixati is concerned.  PIA provides port forwarding, but there is no way to fix my port, so periodically I'll have to change Tixati settings.  Because I'm in Romania, I am using their Romanian server and there is only a minor speed difference to no VPN.

you probably generated and used the password from the privateinternetaccess site used for sock5?

No. Even when you use the correct login (the one for the proxy, NOT the one for PIA account) Tixati cannot connect to the proxy. Even when you reset the login credentials at the PIA control panel and use the new login, Taxiti still cannot connect to the proxy. qBitTorrent and uTorrent do not have this issue with the very same login. Any reason anyone can think of that Tixati cannot manage this connection while other clients have no problem?

well it seems to work for me. I have no issues with it. Unless it's just not working and I'm not seeing that part? How do you check?
