Error writing file: Data errc

by Guest on 2013/07/31 07:52:04 PM
Greetings,

I've been using Tixati for some time now, and just recently I'm getting this error: "Error writing file: Data errc" and "cyclic redundancy check." What does this mean? I have nearly 80GB of free space available on the target drive, and even small files generate this error. I've defraged the drive a few times thinking that was the issue but the error still persists. How do I repair this problem?

Thanks!

Hello,

Does this happen only on torrents you are downloading, or does it also occur on ones you are seeding?  The CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check) is something that is done to verify that the data in the torrent is correct (basically).  Either your hard drive is beginning to fail and writing or reading data incorrectly, or it's possible there is an issue with your network, causing packets to incorrectly download or upload.  Your answer to my previous question will help narrow it down.  Have you experienced any odd issues with your hard drive and about how old is it?
It is also possible your ISP is attempting to interfere with your torrent downloads by feeding Tixati incorrect information.  You can check that by pausing any downloads or uploads you have and by going to this site:

Then hit the "Start Testing" button.

The drive could be failing.  You may need to do an exhaustive analysis of that drive.  CRC checks should NOT happen on a healthy drive.

Thanks all, for the replies. The drive was indeed failing. I replaced the drive and all is good. =]
