[Suggestion] When sorting transfers by "Completed"...

by Guest on 2024/01/22 06:16:57 PM
When sorting transfers by the "Completed" column (i.e. most recent downloads), it would make more sense to have incomplete transfers at the "recents" end of the list. Currently they're at the opposite end.

Example of current sorting:
- Transfer: Completed 5 minutes ago
- Transfer: Completed 11 minutes ago
- Transfer: Completed 15 minutes ago
- Transfer: Completed 23 hours ago
- Transfer: Downloading at 75%
- Transfer: Downloading at 20%

Example of suggested sorting:
- Transfer: Downloading at 75%
- Transfer: Downloading at 20%
- Transfer: Completed 5 minutes ago
- Transfer: Completed 11 minutes ago
- Transfer: Completed 15 minutes ago
- Transfer: Completed 23 hours ago

If I'm looking for a transfer I recently added, this new sorting would mean I can always find it near the start of the list. With the current sorting, it could be at either end depending on whether it completed or not.

From Transfers tab, click on Layout, then on Sortable View. Finally, click on % icon from complete column to inverse the order of torrents.

The problem I have is that current downloads and recently finished downloads are shown at opposite ends of the list. This is always true with the current sorting logic, whether the order is ascending or descending.

Here's the example of how sorting currently works:

- Transfer: Completed 5 minutes ago <- Most recently completed
- Transfer: Completed 11 minutes ago
- Transfer: Completed 15 minutes ago
- Transfer: Completed 23 hours ago
- Transfer: Downloading at 75% <- To be completed

Inverting the column order puts the downloads to the top, but it also moves the recents to the bottom:

- Transfer: Downloading at 75% <- To be completed
- Transfer: Completed 23 hours ago
- Transfer: Completed 15 minutes ago
- Transfer: Completed 11 minutes ago
- Transfer: Completed 5 minutes ago <- Most recently completed

This logic means that whenever a transfer is completed, it jumps from one end of the list to the other. My suggestion is that the sorting would consider incomplete transfers to be infinitely recent rather than infinitely old, so they would appear together with the recents like this:

- Transfer: Downloading at 75% <- To be completed
- Transfer: Completed 5 minutes ago  <- Most recently completed
- Transfer: Completed 11 minutes ago
- Transfer: Completed 15 minutes ago
- Transfer: Completed 23 hours ago

With this scheme, getting to 100% simply means the transfer changes from incomplete to complete and stays where it is:

- Transfer: Completed 0 seconds ago (tada!) <- Most recently completed
- Transfer: Completed 5 minutes ago
- Transfer: Completed 11 minutes ago
- Transfer: Completed 15 minutes ago
- Transfer: Completed 23 hours ago

I like it; good idea. :)
