Tixati and old versions of Windows

by Guest on 2022/10/10 05:58:03 AM
Thank you for maintaining compatibility with old versions of Windows. I just tried to install Tixati in reactOS and it runs flawlessly. The only thing that doesn't work is IPv6 but that isn't Tixati's fault. I can't think of any other modern BitTorrent clients that still support XP / Server 2003. If you are running Tixati on an old version of Windows, reply below with which Windows.

I'm using tixati ver, 3.42-1 on Windows 2000 professional (with extended kernel) it (tixati) works like a charm... except for one nasty little problem.
When I click the "Add" button and the dialog box named "Add new transfer" appears tixati crash unexpectedly, creating tixati_crash_report.dat... :(.

Same problem with options -> transfers -> Change Location -> Select Folder dialog appears and tixati silently crash...

the last version of tixati working flawlessly on Win2k with Ext. Kernel is 2.88 :)

Thanks in advance for your excellent program and your kindly attention

Are you sending in those crash reports? That's the best way to get this fixed. If it's just on your desktop post it here. What was the last version of Tixati you were running when you were not crashing? Has anything else changed besides the Tixati update?

A friendly suggestion for those who prefer competent / clean GUI and minimal resources: ReactOS for XP like Linux or Bazzite for modern and still reasonably low resource Linux distro.

I do business and can't easily migrate from Windows 10. So I've been cheering Linux development for almost two decades now. I tried Bazzite and it's finally the first distro where I wasn't forced to go ask a question and get slapped in the face with, "Well, dump these two PHD thesis long commands" ...to do? "To simply copy-paste a file."

Seriously, setup a VM and install Bazzite or throw it on a reasonably older computer. If you're rocking like a Pentium 4 or something insane for the love of Bob just go to a local Good Will and you can get something more modern for dirt cheap.

I'm not saying your computer will die though if you're using 2000 / XP / etc you're going to have a severe shock if you haven't made any effort in to making some kind of migration plans. I'm not saying Bazzite or ReactOS are perfect though I have zero plans for Windows 11. Whatever you choose, good luck!

I have a 486 laptop with 16MB RAM and am looking for a nice linux distro that will work on that. Any suggestions?
It has a working windows 3.11 on it.

The laptop still works, but is buried under a lot of other stuff. I will reactivate it though as soon as I get rid of the junk on top of it :)

I like using old hardware and giving it sensible things to do and therefore show that even old hardware can be useful nowadays too.
I have a 32bit DELL laptop running Kali linux fast enough and have a very slow running win10 multi-bootable on that device too. Windows 10 32bit support was great as long it was supported.

I have a few pentium I laptops without displays that would most likely still work when accessing it via SSH. I think setting up a web server on that for my own special homepage would be nice to get working too. I have mounting sockets for them somewhere so I can fix them to be screwed to a wall.

Therefore I think it is great to see that there is still active developed software around supporting 32bit and possible even older hardware and I like every supporter of such older hardware.

Tixati 3.42 runs perfectly on Win7 64bit.

Smallest version of Tiny Core Linux needs 486 and 32 MB of RAM to run (serious workstation/server class system back in the days). Recommended configuration (that allows to perform at least some productive tasks) is much more powerful early 2000s system. You  should be able to run Tixati there, the dependencies are available in the extra packages, but for that you probably need to add another 100 MB of memory.

It makes very little sense to run modern kernels on hardware that struggled even with contemporary Unix-like systems.
