Fix Ordered Priority

by Guest on 2022/03/17 04:01:29 PM
2.88

I have a list of files. I select Ordered Priority and they get the Priority as 1, 2, 3...
All Peers are 100%.

File 1 is downloading at 22% right now, BUT file 2 is at 17% which ruins the whole point of ordered downloading.

ORDERED SHOULD BE STRICT!!!

I dont care about the lame excuses about the swarm, health of the torrent, etc. as there are 6 complete peers.

Strict download of files by order would be considered a bug. Imagine this scenario:

We have a torrent which contains 2 videos:
-(x): 1st video.
-(y): 2nd video.
The swarm connected to the torrent is composed of 4 members:
-(A): Seeder. Max upload speed = 2 MB/s.
-(B): Seeder. Max upload speed = 4 MB/s.
-(C): Peer. Has only (y). Not interested in (x). Max upload speed = 10 MB/s.
-(D): Peer. Just joined the swarm now. His max download speed is 20 MB/s, and he want to download the 2 videos by strict order.

Strict order in this case, means rather than taking advantage of the upload speed of (A), (B), and (C) (2+4+10= 16 MB/s), (D) will be limiting himself to 6 MB/s ((A)+(B)) until he finishes downloading (x). No one using logic want such behavior from a torrent client, because it brings disadvantages and no advantage at all.

To see if Tixati is downloading files by order correctly, you should choose a torrent with no peers, only seeders (there are many of them on private trackers). The number of seeders doesn't matter in the test. I myself haven't tried downloading files by order with Tixati yet, so i can't say how good/bad the program manage it.

"All Peers are 100%" = Seeds.

In torrents ALL are Peers.
Then you have Seeders 100% and Leechers XX%.

Is like TX007 said, but if Tixati is not good to you for ordered download, say to us what client is better in this matter? Tixati is simply the best client for sequential and ordered download of all time.

A client that has only parts of the torrent is not always a leecher. In my previous example it's called "partial seed" (because the client is not interested to download the rest of torrent). It's true that all swarm members are called peers, but in some contexts the word "peer" refers only to leechers & partial seeds.

Guest, I am asking the devs to make it work as it should, STRICT.

A couple of IF statements...

In my case ordered isnt working that well.

So your reply contributed nothing to my problem.

If all is 100% so Tixati has an issue, would add a setting to choose the aggressiveness of ordered feature.

First guest, I think you missed the point:
File 1 is downloading at 22% right now, BUT file 2 is at 17% which ruins the whole point of ordered downloading.
ORDERED SHOULD BE STRICT!!!

The selected files are individually downloaded sequentially. Have you changed file priorities for file 1 to have a higher priority?
Beyond that it looks like you/the swarm don't have enough bandwidth to support the sequential downloading of two files simultaneously.

Maybe there was no problem from the beginning.

I tried downloading by order with v2.88 today. During my test, Tixati didn't jump to the next file until the current one becomes close to 100%. The exception is negligible, probably it was caused by some torrent pieces, which are shared between multiple files.

+1 for absolute ordered mode

File 2 shouldnt start until file 1 is complete, etc.

As TX007 said, have some torrents, not all, but some, which need download parts of other files, which is side by side with the file you selected, Tixati can even download parts of "not selected" files, I think Tixati NEED do it on this torrents, as TX007 said is related with the pieces.

Would be great a aggressive ordered option
