Difference between 32bit and 64bit Windows versions?

by Guest on 2014/04/10 10:51:33 PM
I was looking at what programs I had on my Windows 8 laptop using: Advanced Uninstaller pro 11 and discovered that I had the 32bit version of 'Tixati'.
Is it worth having the 64bit version and if it is can I install it over the 32bit version without uninstalling it first?
Thanks

Anyone?

You need a 64 bit computer to run 64 bit programs.

32 bit computer wont run 64 bit programs.

but a 64 bit computer will run a 32 bit program.

I have a 64bit computer, but my question has not been answered.

64 runs faster and smoother

32bit have limit to use 3-4 gb ram per single program.
64bit can use any amount of ram on your pc this days.
as far as i know this is the only difference (if we are talking not about drivers or something lowlevel working directly with the hardware)

yes, but can I install the 64bit over the 32bit, or do I have to uninstall the 32bit version first?

Have you actually tested that?
Many 32-bit progs run the same or faster than the 64-bit versions. The only advantage to 64 bit apps is more available memory. There are very few apps that are actually faster in their 64 guise.

@OP: Let see. I used to run Tixati 32-bits in Win XP 32-bit and 64-bits in XP 64-bit myself. I don't really find any noticable difference between those 2. Normally I believe in coder/programer who create Tixati, each version for each flatform was optimized. But recently, I'm not so sure about that at all.

I read a topic in this forum few weeks ago (don't remember link 'coz lately I don't often visit here). And a person say that he found out that 32-bit is more stable and smooth running than 64-bit one, especially in his 64-bit system. And he said that he got hang/not-responding issue solved by using 32-bit version. So maybe there's something about that... I'm not sure about what he said. But neither I can about Tixati coder...

We see Tixati has got it own problem for years and nothing going to be fixed at all. Maybe coding aspect of Tixati 64-bit not that optimized and maybe affect performance or smoothness on user system... just maybe... (They have got problem that they didn't fix for very long time so it's safe to assume that code optimizing between flat form not that good? isn't it?)

Thanks for the replies.
I'll stick with the 32bit version.

Technically x86 simply refers to a family of processors and the instruction set they all use. It doesn't actually say anything specific about data sizes. The term x86 started out as a 16-bit instruction set for 16-bit processors (the 8086 and 8088 processors), then was extended to a 32-bit instruction set for 32-bit processors (80386 and 80486), and now has been extended to a 64-bit instruction set for 64-bit processors. It used to be written as 80x86 to reflect the changing value in the middle of the chip model numbers, but somewhere along the line the 80 in the front was dropped, leaving just x86. More about....difference between x86 and x64
