Upload with Tixati is only a fraction of uTorrent performance

by mbe on 2018/03/18 04:49:28 PM
I have observed a strange situation consistently over a week:
- on the same PC (Win 10, 1703), on different ports, both torrent Apps work in parallel, for the exact same torrents.
- DHT switched on, and performance optimization advise implemented as per your web site
- uTorrent AVERAGE upload is 2-3 TIMES higher than Tixati's
- then I thought that the UDP port (different between both) may have an impact, so I flipped the wto and restarted both.
- after some minutes uTorrent again outperformed Tixati by FACTORS
So, what's wrong with Tixati, please ?
TXs and cheers

Hi,
in uTorrent there is an option that make it possible/impossible for 2 torrent clients using the same ip to connect to you:
bt.allow_same_ip

this option is disabled by default , so it's not possible to connect 2 clients from your computer to a remote uTorrent.

And i think not only uTorrent has this feature.

So maybe in your test uTorrent connected to the leechers before Tixati, then the torrents clients of those leechers ignored Tixati connection, i'm not sure if it's the case though.

I suggest you to do the test using 2 computers , one with tixati installed , the other with uTorrent , at the same time, with the same torrents. but one of those 2 computers should be connected to a fast vpn that support torrenting (to avoid having the same ip adress).

Or try to seed the same torrents one hour with Tixati, and another hour using uTorrent (after closing Tixati ) then compare the results.

I'm waiting for your results.

Hi,
I could not spot bt.allow_same_ip, at leat not in preference UI

However, as I wrote, I am using already 3 different ports (with forwarding in the router) for the 3 torrent clients. So, none of them stands in the other's way.

Meanwhile there have been times where Tixati was outperforming uTorrent, so maybe this is a ll a random thing, with massive deviations if case numbers are not huge.

Seeds for those Wikipedia torrents are typically 1 to 10, and peers/leechers from 1 to 5.
I'll continue to observe.

From your answer may I conclude that there should not be no systematic "breaks" that inhibit Tixati compared to uTorrent, right ?

To see that option in uTorrent you have to go to
Options > Preferences > Advanced.

The problem is  not only with the ports, but also with the ip adress , because the remote torrent clients possibly will not allow all your clients to connect to them at the same time as long they are using the same ip.

For me after using Tixati 2.56 and 2.57 , i find the seeding behavior normal, but of course making tests and comparatives is always useful , so we can notify the developers if something go wrong.

One way of doing your test on a single system is two create 2 virtual machines (or more), install a VPN like pia on both, connect to VPN (similar location) on both and ensure exit IPs are different. Then both clients would have genuine different IP's and would be contactable. Then on your base OS you would seed on a third client to the other two. Pending the VPN isn't crap it would give you a good idea.
