Access to Linux /mnt filesystems only in root mode?

by TDD99CA on 2016/12/21 05:41:26 AM
Hi all?

On my two linux boxes, I am trying to get one to scrape torrent files and drop it into a black hole folder for Tixati.  I can easily set the /mnt points to access the machine Tixati is not running on and browse to the folder that will be the black hole folder, but I cannot select it as it is ghosted out.

Running Tixati as root solves this so it is likely a permissions issue...but I don't want to run as root.

The /mnt filesystem (CIFS) is public access, R/W.  I can access it just fine via a shell, MC, etc.

Must the ownership of the folder be changed so Tixati is happy?

TDD.

When it creates the files/folder .. If you already have an existing 2.48 installation, stick to that. There are issues with old linux kernel on 2.48. Read the changelog to see if that's affected.
Unfortunately I don't know much about program maintenence in Linux. Hope this helps.

Seems like you need to run Tixati under the user that has access to that folder.

If the files are written by another program like SAMBA or FTP server/clients. The permissions for the files they write/create are set by the user under which the programs run.
(Samba sometimes has it's own user)

The fix for this is to run Tixati under that user or add it to the other usergroup/make a group specially for you shares.
Manually setting the permissions wil not work; because every new file created after the permissionschange will have the permissions of the binary (program) that created it.
