[BUG] 2.47, IP

by Skram0 on 2016/11/12 09:00:39 AM
I use another bittorrent program. And when I select my Peers option to see the other peers I don't see a legitimate IP address but I do see someone's computer name with a client of "Tixati 2.47". Example, if my windows computer name was JOHN-PC, then that's what I'd see under the IP section. Technically what I would see is "JOHN-PC ".

Seems like a massive privacy bug to me to leak your user's PC name.

I only created an account here to post my concerns. Thank you for listening.

where exactly are you seeing this?

have you tried updating to 2.48?

what OS are you using?

DNS resolution happens.
If you attempted to connect to your Tixati IP through your tixati port from outside your LAN (or with your public IP) you wouldn't resolve to your PC name

You didn't get my post. I said I was using another bittorrent program.

I'm using uTorrent. And I'm connected to an unnamed torrent. And there's numerous other clients I see in the Peers list, uTorrent, Vuze, Transmission, Tixati, etc..

What I see as a uTorrent user is another client in the Peers list that displays a Windows computer name instead of displaying an actual IP address under the IP address column in uTorrent.

Maybe this is by design to hide the actual user's IP address, I don't know. But I use uTorrent, and they use Tixati 2.47 with flags "uDS HXEP". I see their computer name instead of an IP address so it appears version 2.47 has a "computer name" leak bug.

That particular user has since upgraded to v2.48 and it's still broadcasting what appears to be the computer name. So it seems even v2.48 still has this issue.

DNS is irrelevant of the program. Very likely your connection to another peer would seem the same.
It amazes me people have their computers open to the net without protection behind any NAT... portscanning is terrifying prospect in the age of mirai.

try not to resolve the IP in µTorrent then - might be an IP from Vietnam, they mostly have the issue that their resolved hostname is "localhost" or just your computer name (in my case "Ludger" or "Dana").
