File locations after restoring a backup cross-platform

by Guest on 2016/10/11 04:10:32 AM
Hi all,

I dual-boot windows and linux on my main machine, and from time to time I need to restore a backup (e.g. after having reinstalled one of the OSs or just to update the transfers on the secondary OS instead of having to do that one-by-one). The problem is, this doesn't work because the two systems use different directory structures for file locations - windows uses C:\..., while linux uses /media/... or similar.

Worse, when having loaded a backup from the other OS, you can't simply point the transfer to the new location, as it tries to move the files from the 'old' location, can't find them, and reports an error.

Is the an easier way around this>

try using the portable version. its the easiest way to go back and forth between win and linux.
