change settings files (.dat) location?

by Guest on 2016/09/07 01:17:23 AM
on Windows, it looks like Tixati stores a bunch of small .dat files in %APPDATA%\tixati.  I would love it if tixati provided an option to relocate those files, the way it does for incomplete-pieces.

the reason is that I am obsessing over space and writes on my new tiny SSD.  please don't everyone jump on me and say it won't make any difference to the SSD, you won't convince me. (I also believe man never landed on the moon.  moon rocks?  pfeh!  they were 3D-printed from old cement).

I can do some symlink tricks but it would be easier and cleaner if it was a Tixati program setting.

thanks!

p.s. also, everyone please don't yell at me to use the portable version, either, because the desktop-installed version is much more convenient for me to use than the portable version.

Unsure of how you actually suggest this could be implemented.
You don't like Windows' or Linux way to have "default" folder.
You don't want everything in Tixati folder for a "default"...
I remember when uTorrent upgraded to local pathing you could add command line arguments...
If you give an example filespec\path\from\root\or\~ would be helpful.

I was hoping for a setting similar to Settings -> Transfer -> Locations -> Incomplete Piece Storage Location.  I would be happy with a single setting that sets the location for all files currently stored in %APPDATA%\tixati.

however... I just set up a symlink for that directory and it is working fine and is way easier than you guys making code changes, so I withdraw the request. :)

I was previous guest. Still unsure as to why you cant use portable which already keeps everything self contained but prefer to symlink the existing default folder somewhere else... Is this a multi-user environment problem?
Happy to see your original alternative works, just unsure of the necessity. Thanks for keeping the thread updated.
I do know of the issues on slower systems with a large running instance where a RAM disk for the .DAT files is preferrable for speed/re-write progress for the length of time Tixati is running.
