Individual File Relocation

by Guest on 2016/08/31 02:41:08 PM
Hey all,

I have tried Tixati multiple times in the past and really loved everything about it, most certainly the amount of information and customization.

There is 1 niggle though that holds me back every time I want to use it fully which is individual file relocation.

Currently I am on uTorrent 2.2.1 and uTorrent has a feature which allows each individual file of a torrent no matter where it is located, renamed or in different folders to be selected as part of the original torrent. The torrent file is then checked for integrity and seeded.

The main reason I use this as when downloading say a Movie or TV series is that the files in a torrent are not always named to the same format I need them to be (e.g. Plex / Kodi ect) Also the folder structure differs so I change that too.

Let me clarify:

Torrent: - A.Movie/A.Movie[1080p].mkv
         -A.Movie/A.Movie.BONUS/A.Movie.making of.mkv

SOrted: - A Movie/A Movie.mkv
       - A Movie/Extras/A Movie - Making of.mkv

I know I can change the file name within Tixati but when it comes to say a sub folder (or even a sub folder in a sub folder) Tixati assumes the subfolder is named exactly as it was in the original torrent and will fail to see the file and attempt to re-download it creating the original hierarchy.

One can even go so far as to have (say the torrent has 2 files) have file 1 on 1 Harddrive and File 2 on another. It's no problem to just point to where the individual files are and let it continue seeding. This is not something I do but just an example from uTorrent.

I find it is important for seeding as I want to continue to seed but also be able to rearrange the file structure to fit my needs.

I have looked through Tixati multiple times and tried to get this to work but to no avail, if I am missing something obvious and it is already possible then I can finally switch away from uTorrent.

All the best!

Unfortunately, Tixati will invariably create a folder if the torrent has a folder or more than one file in its contents.
The best way to bypass this, I have found, is to create a folder to hold those useless folders.

Example:
Torrent Contents
C:\TorrentName\
01. music.ext
02. music.ext

Existing files
C:\Artist\Year - Album\
01 - Music.ext
02 - Music.ext

Fix
C:\Downloads\Incomplete\TorrentName
C:\Artist\Year - Album\01 - Music.ext
C:\Artist\Year - Album\02 - Music.ext

I put the folder created by Tixati in a separate folder by default and then I manually point to the existing files.

Many thanks for your reply!

I have had another fiddle with it and have managed to get it working the way I needed :)
It is a bit cumbersome...especially if you are adding existing files one has already got but when adding new torrents it is the same work as when going through the explorer renaming files ect.

I'll clarify on an example on mine:

Torrent File:

D:/.../MovieTitle1-bluray.1080p/MovieTitle1-bluray.1080p.mkv
D:/.../MovieTitle1-bluray.1080p/nfo.txt
D:/.../MovieTitle1-bluray.1080p/Bonus.1/Name.mkv
D:/.../MovieTitle1-bluray.1080p/Bonus.2/Name.mkv
D:/.../MovieTitle1-bluray.1080p/Bonus.3/Name.mkv

Sorting:

D:/.../MovieTitle2/MovieTitle2 - BluRay - 1080p.mkv
D:/.../MovieTitle2/nfo.txt
D:/.../MovieTitle2/Extras/Name1.mkv
D:/.../MovieTitle2/Extras/Name2.mkv
D:/.../MovieTitle2/Extras/Name3.mkv

The trouble always used to be the extra folders, in this example (Bonus 1,2,3 ect) I had all bonus content in 1 folder. I couldn't get around the issue and as such the torrent would always check as incomplete because it couldn't find the bonus items (naturally as they arn't where Tixati wants to look).

I don't know why but the solution is kind of obvious...I didn't realize that I can also rename the extra folder within Tixati. First off I renamed all the Bonus1,2,3 folders to Extras. So I had 3 folders with the same name. Then I could click on each folder and move the location to the Main folder. In this case it would be:

D:/.../MovieTitle2/

When doing this Tixati would say this folder is already present and if you want to merge them. Yes. Do the same with the remaining 2 Extras folders and hey presto, it works :)

Now, when adding a new torrent, instead of going through explorer and cutting and pasting your files and renaming them there, one can just do it through Tixati. Saves doing the work twice so to say.

It is only when it comes to adding pre existing finished torrents where the work to do so is a bit fiddely. Might be a good idea to add something like a file browser in the future to point at the file without having to go through all of that.

I'm glad though to have gotten it working how I needed it. Can finally ditch uTorrent.

On another note, It took a few hours to sift and add everything. Can I make a backup of Tixati so everything should remain stored as configured? Wouldn't really weant to go through all that again haha. Is it just a  case of backing up all relevant Tixati date.

Many Thanks and great CLient!

try using the import/export feature in the settings. or to be absolutely sure you keep everything you could make a copy of the folder containing the .dat files.
