Tixati downloads take up double their file size in Windows

by Guest on 2016/08/10 04:27:57 AM
Since I updated to 2.43 my files downloaded from Tixati are reported in Windows 7 64-bit as taking up nearly double their actual size.  For example, a 40gb torrent would be reported as taking up 80gb of space.  This doesn't happen with http downloads and Space Sniffer and WinDirStat both report the actual file sizes of the torrent files as well as the actual space taken up on the disk.

The main problem is that Tixati and other programs will stop downloading when it thinks I'm out of space but I actually have hundreds of gigs free.  This space is also "freed up" after a restart.  I've only noticed this behavior after updating to 2.43 and I've tested other methods of downloading files leading me to believe this is a problem with the update.

1) chkdsk
2) there is difference between "size" and "size on disk" -
google "ntfs cluster size" and "slack space"

I am aware of clusters and slack space, that's not the problem, it reports the same size and size on disk when I check the C drive properties through explorer.  Chkdsk also found no problems with the file system and reported the actual space taken up by the files, however after doing the chkdsk it did "free up" the space in explorer again without a restart.  Again, I never had this issue until updating to 2.43 and even reformatted, installed 2.43 again and encounter the same problem, I'm not 100% sure it's the update but it seems very likely.

Ok I did some tests to show what the problem is.

First test, transferring a file from a USB hard drive to the C drive:

Next I deleted the file and downloaded the exact same file using Tixati:

This time it only took up 9 extra gbs, I believe that the number of files also has something to do with it, this time it was just a single 40gb file but if I fill my drive with torrents full of multiple files I usually get about 80-100gb of this extra space.
