what's 'fast allocate'?

by olegych on 2016/05/30 04:41:58 PM
Hi
Can some please clarify what exactly 'fast allocate' file allocation option does?
It seems as slow as full pre-write and doesn't seem to reserve full space on the disk (like sparse files), so why would someone want to use it?

Thanks, Oleg

I think it does a striped allocation.  On some systems/drive this is faster than a full-write alloc, but still prevents fragmentation.

This might be helpful with FAT32 drives / flash keys.
