It should be noted that you can only see the .tixati and other app data folders if you are displaying hidden files (eg. ls -a)
On my Fedora-Mate system, most apps actually _don't_ use the .config folder, including gimp, eclipse, java, kompozer, firefox, VirtualBox, vnc, xmms, vice, claws-mail, AndroidStudio, and on and on...
At least at some point in the past, for maximum compatibility with all the different distros, I believe it is/was better to not use .config (it is not always there) and I don't think it is easy or practical to switch now that they already use $HOME/.tixati. Considering we're talking about a matter of pedantic style preference, and the importance of what else needs to be done, this would be a very frivolous use of the developer's effort.
