Beginner Question: How to share a File

by joe on 2013/09/28 09:36:32 AM
Hi

I have some videos i want to share an i am not sure how to do this in tixati. i tried in the menu "Add" => "Create New Seed" and then i selected a file.
1) is this the right way to do this? if yes, this takes quite some time for a lot of files. :-(
2) when i select a hole folder, can peers download just one file out of it?
3) are the seeds spread to the network automatically?

thanks

1) yes. and I think creating a torrent descriptor files does take some time.

2) yes, you can point to and share a whole folder

3) you have to publish the torrent descriptor file somehow. see the section for Uploading and Sharing Torrents at the bottom of this page:

You can email the .torrent file you created to your friends or upload it to a public site.

After torrent task is created in Tixati you should add a tracker, and save the torrent file. Then you can put your file on a torrent indexing site, so other people can find it. Because this is a newly created torrent you are the only seed at the moment.

Making a torrent of folder is OK, peers can select files to download. Keep in mind that people are not likely to download whole folder if there are totally different files inside. It will be harder to seed for you because of greater size. I suggest sharing one file at first to see how it works.
