Hello! First I love this program! Absolutely the best! It's a small non-issue but I want you guys to be aware of it!
I am running Linux Mint 17.2 cinnamon and when I minimize to taskbar the icon disappears and the only way to make it reappear is by clicking on my desktop icon. (There's an empty slot on the taskbar)
It did appear once, but once only.
That was all :3

Confirmed here too, the tray icon is not present at all when Tixati starts. The only way to show it is to go to settings, uncheck and check again "Show icon in system tray".

I may have the answer, at least for Linux Mint Cinnamon.
I just installed Linux Mint 18.3 and have the problems that you note above.
It's not a software problem, it's a configuration problem.
Right click on the task bar. Mine is a charcoal strip on the bottom.
Then click on the TROUBLESHOOT button and expand it.
Then click RESTORE ALL SETTINGS TO DEFAULT.
That's it. I spent several hours researching and experimenting
before discovering this. You can do it in under 20 seconds.
