Advice for finding good quality files that will play on my PC?

by DJ_Burn on 2015/01/07 10:05:44 PM
Hi folks, I'm new to the forum and new to torrents in general.

My problem is that the majority of the torrents I download simply won't play on my media players, even if they are compatible file formats. Of the dozen or so video files I've downloaded, only one will actually play. For example, the MKV format will sometimes, but not always, play, and ditto with AVIs. MP4s don't seem to play at all, even though WMP supposedly supports them.

I just have a standard Windows 8 laptop with Windows Media Player, their Video app, and now a program called "DA Player" I downloaded to play MKVs.

Can anyone suggest a good way to quality-check a torrent before I download it, or any things to look for? Thanks all.

go and get VLC media player. that will probably solve things.

please uninstall DA Player. Malware! VLC is good but even a right click and choosing Media player works. You must be very aware MPAA has put software out there that reports who has played their files. windows media player supports most things now but VLC has always supported every thing.

Assuming the file is already complete...
MPC-HC, PotPlayer, or VLC. Among the best media players today.
